Bright Futures
Jessie Dzura, a 5-year YPP member, is going out with a bang! Jessie was accepted to The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia and was selected to participate in a program called the Sharpe Community Scholars for community and engagement in scholarship. The program seeks to strengthen and expand service-learning and community-based research opportunities by giving first-year students the opportunity to apply what they are learning in real-world concerns. 75 students will participate in community service projects, challenge traditional methods of leadership and service and answer questions like "what are the economics of recycling and how can minicipalities use this knowledge to encourage cost-saving conservation and recycling practices among area businesses and neighborhoods?" through research and class discussion. Congratulations Jessie! We look forward to seeing your work in Williamsburg!
Hillary Hurd, a 4-year YPP member, will persue her college education this fall at the University of Virginia as a Jefferson Scholar. The scholarship seeks to elevate students who have that raw talent and necessary initiative to training that will prepare them to take on the burdens of a free society. Meeting chief qualifications for leadership and having some of the highest standards for herself, Hillary will take on UVA full force looking to major in government and politics. Congratulations, Hillary!
