Are You a Good Leader?
1. You are working on a group project. What is your role?
- I’m the one who make sure everyone stays on task.
- I’m the one who gives lots of ideas and takes my share of the work.
- I’m the one who only shows up to one of the meetings.
2. What are you most likely to be found doing after school?
- Dividing my time up between being president of the Spanish club, soccer Art or writing club.
- Going to support my friends whether it's a sports game, school competition or a performance.
- Sitting at home watching television.
3. You are the captain of the basketball team. What is your pre-game ritual with your team?
- I lead them in a team cheer, and tell them to play their best—we’re great even if we don’t win!
- I tell everyone that we are going to win.
- I practice shooting on my own so I can be sure that I score all the points.
4. You turn in a group project that you know is sure to wow your teacher. She tells you that she really likes the layout of the page, and that you did an excellent job, but you know that another group member was largely responsible for that part of the assignment. What do you say?
- You tell her about the other group member who really deserves the praise, and congratulate the girl on her artful design.
- You tell her it wasn’t totally your design and mention the other girl’s name also.
- You tell her thank you and point out extra special details.
5. The girl you are tutoring is having a lot of trouble with her spelling words. She tells you that she’d rather move on to her math homework, but you know she has a spelling test tomorrow, and needs to learn the words now. You:
- Tell her she needs to finish her spelling homework in order to do well on the test tomorrow, and that you will give her a special treat if she can spell all the words correctly.
- Tell her she can do her math homework, but after that, it’s right back to spelling.
- Tell her she can do whatever she wants, barely looking up from the T.V. show you’re watching.
6. You promised your mom you would watch your four little siblings, but your friend just offered you a fifth-row ticket to a band that you’ve been dying to see. What do you do?
- You turn them down-- it’s your parents' anniversary, and after all, you did promise.
- Ask your mom sweetly if you can go. When she says no, you pout a little but eventually settle for a concert t-shirt from your friend.
- Tell your friend to swing by without even consulting your mom, leaving her stranded at the house with no one to watch the kids.
Mostly A’s: Born Leader—You know how to take action and make sure everyone is on task. You keep spirits up, have integrity, and never stop encouraging those working below you. You don’t give up, and do let anyone else give up either. You are willing to make sacrifices to help others, and always keep your promises.
Mostly B’s: Supporter—You have some of the qualities of a leader, and are always supporting the decisions of those above you. You do your share of the work that is presented, and don’t make anyone else pick up your slack.
Mostly C’s: What Leader?—You are often too absorbed in what you are doing to be bothered with taking charge of anyone else. You don’t have a problem with making someone else do your share of the work. You don’t have much respect for other people’s needs or feelings.
